History of Christ Apostolic Church (WOSEM)
The establishment
of
Christ
Apostolic
Church
came in a revelation to the late Apostle Joseph A. Babalola by the Holy Spirit on
October 1928 in a revival in
Ilesha
, a town in Osun state, Nigeria, West Africa
.
The Christ
Apostolic Church (WOSEM) of America, Inc. was founded in the United States of
America in 1982 by Apostle (Dr.) T.O. Obadare, the world renowned Evangelist
from Nigeria. Prophet Obadare is the Apostle and General Evangelist of the Christ
Apostolic
Church
(WOSEM) Church
worldwide.
The Georgia
Avenue Branch started in 2002, when Pastor Paul Obadare, Pastor Kings
Goodness, Mr. and Mrs. Olufemi Ekisola, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Ayodeji, and Matron
Rosemary Akinmboni started Bible Study at Garfield
Center
in Washington, DC. The
present pastor was an Elder at Christ Apostolic
Church (WOSEM), the
Mother
Church
in Washington, DC. Pastor Kings Goodness would invite him to come and teach Bible Study or preach
on Sunday evening. It was not long that the lord spoke to the Apostle (Dr.) T.O.
Obadare and Pastor (Dr.) Paul Obadare to conduct a great revival at the
Banneker
Recreation
Center
near
Howard
University
in Washington,
DC
in August, 2003. After the great revival as God will have it, the Apostle
Obadare established a church with only a few people. But with this few number
of people, the church began worshiping at the rented space of Banneker
Recreation
Center
every Sunday, and conducted Bible Study every Wednesday night at the Garfield
Family Terrace
Center.
After about three
years at the Banneker
Recreation
Center, in April of 2006 we were told to move out because the center was being
renovated. The pastor, Elder
Solomon Akinshola, sought the face of the Lord about relocating the church to a new,
bigger and better place. A short time later the Lord answered our prayer, and to
God be the glory, we found a vacant building that used to be a church along Georgia Avenue NW,
Washington,
DC. The location is 4408 Georgia Avenue NW, Washington, DC
20011. The building is used today for God’s Ministry. Also, the church move was not
without its challenges. The building needed a lot of work and the few members
didn’t have the money. But after signing the lease, the Lord made a way,
reminding the Pastor that He is the source, not people. New members steadily
came each year, and the church continues to grow, while some left looking for well
established churches.
Today, Christ
Apostolic Church (WOSEM), Georgia Avenue Branch has grown, and holds its services
in the building that is uniquely designed for the work of God.
